چکیده
Objectives We reassess the taxonomic assignment and stratigraphic context of a permanent upper first molar lower third premolar recovered from archeological site Lezetxiki in North Iberian Peninsula. Materials Methods assessed external internal morphology teeth using qualitative descriptions, crown diameters, dental tissue proportions, geometric morphometrics. The were compared with Middle Pleistocene specimens, Neanderthals, Upper Paleolithic modern humans, recent humans. Results Both consistent Neanderthal classification. shows taurodontism, its cusp proportions overall match those Neanderthals. Geometric morphometric analyses occlusal anatomy classify this as posterior probability 76%. premolar, which was originally classified fourth also morphology. This is 60%. Discussion These represent only adult Western Pyrenees region found to date. at level (designated Level III) that marks transition Mousterian Aurignacian, are among most remains north

From Neanderthal to Homo sapiens
Project background During the course of evolution, the human brain has undergone tremendous expansion. This has led to the development of complex neurocircuits of unmatched complexity, highly social behaviour, expanded language use and cognitive superiority. A small number of infants, however, are born with significantly smaller brains, a condition called primary microcephaly (PM). Infants with...

Transient global amnesia (TGA) is a dramatic event. Without warning, the patient suddenly experiences antegrade memory loss.1,2 As quickly as the amnesic syndrome appears, it resolves, usually within 24 hours. There are no apparent long-term sequelae, and recurrence is uncommon. What causes TGA? For years this question has been debated. Various proponents have advocated ischemic, migrainous, an...
متن کاملNeanderthal diet at Vindija and Neanderthal predation: the evidence from stable isotopes.
Archeological analysis of faunal remains and of lithic and bone tools has suggested that hunting of medium to large mammals was a major element of Neanderthal subsistence. Plant foods are almost invisible in the archeological record, and it is impossible to estimate accurately their dietary importance. However, stable isotope (delta(13)C and delta(15)N) analysis of mammal bone collagen provides...
متن کاملCortinarius mahiquesii, a new subhypogeous species from Catalonia (Iberian Peninsula)
We describe and comment on a new species of Cortinarius (Basidiomycota), C. mahiquesii, collected in a pure Cistus monspeliensis scrub community in Catalonia (NE of the Iberian Peninsula). Drawings of microscopic characters, scanning microphotographs of the basidiospores, and colour pictures of the basidiomes in their natural habitat are provided. A molecular analysis was carried out to charact...
متن کاملNew palpigrades (Arachnida, Eukoeneniidae) from the Iberian Peninsula.
Eighteen specimens of palpigrades captured in seven caves in the provinces of Castellon and Valencia in eastern Spain are studied. We describe and illustrate three new species and a new subspecies: Eukoenenia valencianus sp. nov., Eukoenenia montagudi sp. nov., Eukoenenia sendrai sp. nov. and Eukoenenia patrizii iberica ssp. nov. The Iberian fauna now comprises nine species that we place into t...
